The new Mayor of Lyttelton (Mr C. Coo!O was installed a-t, t.Uo- moot ing of the Horoii ?jh Council last nifiht.
After the Council business Mas concluded, the Mayor proposed a vote of thanke to the retiring Mayor (.Mr S. 11. Webb) for the valuable services rendered by him during the years tie had held tho position of Mayor. CV. HOIUS erconded the motion, which was carried by acohonaVion. In replying, Mα , Webb said ho realised that tht> thanks w.biob tho Mayor and councillors ihad accorded him came fre-m their hearts. They had experienced difficulties on certain occasions, because they had not seen eyo to eye with him, and thcee had not rendered the position he had occupied altogether a pleasant one. . Bβ, quite realised, however, that, now the ibattlo was over, ii would do harm both to th© borough ar.d to the individuals concerned, if t'tvey allowed the fee-lings which tad been stirred up to continue. (Hear, liear.) After the meeting of the Council bid concluded, iho newly-installed Mayor entertained the councillore, the members of iho etaff, amd a number of oitizens and business people of Lytteltpn at a K>nioko oonoert, about fifty persons being presont.
