COUNTY COUNCILS.
AMUR I. The monthly meeting of tho Amuri County Council was held on .Saturday. Present—Messrs l>. U. Mncfarlnne (chairman), R. A. Cliaffey, W. Fitz-patri-ck, J. McArthur, l>. Rutherford, and W. Thomson. Mr iNicholson, Leslie Hills, asked the Council to register his motor. After referring to the Motor Act, and considering tho expense necessary to bring tho into force, it was decided to suggest that Ivo should register in Christchurcli. Mrs Uavison asked what had been dono in tho matter of supplying -water to her .sections at Itotherham, and it was derided to reply that the matter would bo gone into when the extension of the water races on the Oulverden Estate was deilt with. Tho Commissioner of Crown, I*ande enC|iiired what extension of water races was wanted on the Culverden Estate, and the probable cost. It was resolved to reply that the new races required wese six miles in length, and the- estimated cost about £300. The Under-Secretary for Public Works, in answer to the Council's" protest against carrying the proposed HanmerYVaiau extension of the railway along the public road, stated that provision had been made for taking the line along the inside of tho fence on the Culverdon Estate. Tho tender of Penwell and Chapman, tor metalling tho Tongue Koad, at 2s Id per cubic yard, was accepted. The clerk was directed to write to the Rabbit Board trustees, pointing out that, owing to the increasing traffic on tho Hammer' Read, it would bo necessa-ry to put some one in charge of the gate or' remove .it oltogc-the-r. Notice was gfive-n of t<ho inJ.9ntion of the Council at its next meeting in June, to make and levy a general rate of three-eighths of a penny in the £.
A special meeting of the Council was held the same day, at -which a special order-was made levying a special rate of three farthings in the £ on tho Waiau Township River Bistrict, this special order.to bo confirmed at a subsequent meeting on June 6th.
