Flags at most of the business places in town and at Port were flown at half-mast yesterday as a mark of respect to tho memory of the lato Mr Stead.
The flags a.b the offices of Mesere Frk-dlander Bros., And those of tno 2s>ational Mortgage and Agency Co., Aishburton, were flown at half-mast yesterday out of respect to the memory of the late Mr Stead. The funeral cortege will leave Strowan Park at 2 o'clock this afternoon for the Lin wood Cemetery, where the interment will take place. Members of returned Contin©eiit» intend to be present' at the funeral, and will assemble at the King Edward Barracks early in the afternoon" i*» order to leave for Strow&n together. Numerous telegrams of sympathy, a-nd expressing appreciation of ti» worbh or the deceased gen-tlomajh, have been received at "The Press" office irom all parte of the Dominion. The messages include oomniunications of condolenoo from the chairman of directors, and from the manager, of t<he Press Afisociatam, as woll as from newspaper proprietors and staifs in different New ZeaJand_ centres.
