Considerable interest was manifested by the ratepayers of Lyttelton in tho ipoll for the election of Mayor, which wae held yesterday in the Colonists' Hull v The two candidates, -Me&srs 8. R. Webb and C Cook wero equally conlitlent of .sitci'-'.'ss, and a very close contest took ])la«>. There was a steady stream of voter* during tho day. In tin- evening a large crowd assembled ontwido the hall to learn tho result, which was announced shortly lifter 8 o'clock. Tho result was as follows:— C. Cook ... ... ... J27 S. H. Webt) 373 Informal ... ... 17 Majority for Cook ... 51 The total number of votes cast ivas 817, which is said to be a record for a municipal election in Lyttelton. Tho number on the roll is about 1300. Tho result was received with loud cheers. Mr Cook returned thanks for his election. ,
