CARPExVTERS' AND. JOINERS' DISPUTE.
Tho Coiiiciliation Board has made tho following recommendations in tho carpenxtsrs' and joiners' dispute:—Ail jouraieyiuen carpentors and joiners shall bo paid not less tham lla 4d per day of ciighi hours. Incompetonit workmen may bo employed at a. wage to be upon, but no such -workman ebolil be ompJoyed for loss than 7s per day. Provision is made for the employment of youtlis undKir years of age, who have Gnashed the'r apprenticeship, at not less than, than Gs Gd per day. An employer may engage one underpaid- workman to ©very Uiree compotont men, provided they are avail-, ablo. Tho hours of labour ehall be from 8 a.m. to 4.30 from May Ist to July 81st, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from August Ist to April 31st. Overtirao sh&ll bo paid for at the rate of timo and a auarter for the first four hours and , time and half afterwards, and for any work done on the following daya:—New Year's Day,. Easter Monday, Labour Day, Show Day, Anniversary Day and Boxing Day. Double timo is allowed for time worked Christmas Day, Good! Friday and Sundays. Clauses are inserted for workmen and apprentices engaged in the country. Two hours -shall be allowed! to men Who ihafve been employed not Jece than a week when they are discharged iv order'to sharpen their tools. Wages are to be paid weekly. No limitation is placed on apprentices, but they shall bo indentured lor a term of five years. Freezing companies are brought under fbe award if they employ more than one carpenter. The recommendation oovers the Canterbury dirtrict from north of the Rangitata to the northern boundary of the industrial district, - with., the exception of the borougfcs of Rangiora and* Kaiapoi. If exception is not taken to the award within four weeks it will remain in force till April 1910
