STRUCK BY AMERICAN LINER.

SPLENDID DISCIPLINE OBSERVED

When the blizzard was at its height on Saturday afternoon the American liner St. Paul, outward bound from Southampton", crashed into the port side of the cruiser Gladiator, off Yarmouth, Isle of Wight. The Gladiator heeled over, and sank in about twenty minutes. The Admiralty report that the crew landed, except three, who were drowned. A lieutenant is missing. The St. Paul was Irttlo damaged. Her bow plates were buckled, and she has returned to Southampton.

Captain Lamsdan was the last to leave tbe Gladiator. Splendid discipline was observed. The men stood at quarters, and only leapt overboard when the 6ea threatened to engulf them. When the ship capsized all hands climbed on to her bottom, which was out of the water.

A passenger on the St. Paul reports that he heard the sailors on the overturned keel sing '"Sons of the Brave."
