NEW ZEALAND BEATS AUSTRALIA

AN EXCITING FINISH

United Press Association—By Eleclric Telegraph—OpyKght. (Received April 26th, 4.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 25. In the bowling tournament the New Zealand bowling team beat Australia by two points.

The match drew a good attendance at the Ashfield green and an exciting finish was witnessed. The weather was very fine. The most sanguine supporters of the Maoriland team did not oontemplate a victory against such a strong contingent as New South Wales and Victoria were able to put up against them; yet, to everybody's astonishment, the New Zcaia_tders romped over their opponents in the first heads, and Australia did not appear to have a chance. The visitors wero 11 up on the fifth head, 22 up on . the tenth, and 24 on the fifteenth head. Gradually the Australians began to pull down tho load up to the twentieth, a__d in the final five heads they woro the Haw Zealanders down- till they \vore only three on. With four rinks finished, the score stood New Zealand 97, Australia 85, but Bentley's rink was 12 down, and a great fight for the victory ensued on their lost head, tho spectator!, being much excited. Before the 6kipe took their shots New Zealamd wore lying a .couple. Scoullar, however, took one out. Strong, the opposing skip, failed to alter the position with his two shots, and Bentley managed to score, leaving New Zealand, victors by a couple ot points. Scores:—

At the conclusion of the match Mr McLeod, president of the New South IVVaI-s Association, and Mr Wood, president of the Victorian Association, congratulated the New Zeaianders on their splendid victory. The visitors presented Mr Banna, secretary of Victorian Association, with a silver shaving outfit, as a token of their appreciation of tho kindness they had received.

A very enjoyable game was played an the St. Albans green on Saturday afternoon between the Kaiapoi Woollen Company and Sargood, Son and Ewen, Ltd. The latter won by 32 to 18.
