SYDNEY. April 23. The New Zealand professional footballers defeated a team selected by the Newcastle Union by 53 points to G. Thero were few spectators. Tries were scored by Rowe (three), R. Wyn.yard (two), Johnston, Dunning, Messon.gor, Tyler, Tyne, and Wrigley. Of these tries, six were converted by Messenger, two by Tnrtill, and one each by Tyler and Johnston.
The football season will be opened to-morrow at Lancaster Pa_rk. fciyd-en-liam, who were dliantprions last year, havo been drawn to play Albion, who were runoers-up. An ooon. game may bo looked forward to. Ohristchurch meet Old Boys, and additional interest will bo lent to this gyirno by the fact that Deans is expected to play. The other game will lie between Linwood and Canterbury College. THie matches will start at 3 p.on.
