. —_—♦— NEW BRIGHTON. The last iortnightly meeting of tho New Brighton Borough Council was attended by the Mayor (Mr G.D. Mscfarlano), and Crs. Otley, Hawker. Bellamy, Scoble, Blake, Clarke, Goodwin, and Staniland. Correspondence was read from the Tramway Board in regard to the complaint of overcrowding on the 4.10 p.m. tram, stating that when the car left the Square it was not crowded, and the traffic sperintendent was not aware that some forty school children were waiting at Manchester 6treet, but arrangements had been made to prevent overcrowding in future. It was decided to again urge the necessity of putting on a car to New Brighton at 3.45 p.m., aud one at 9.45 p.m. on Saturday nights to accommodate those employed in the city who wero unable to catch the 9.12 p.m. tram. The hon. secretary of the local Beautitying Association wrote suggesting that the Council should now take over the care of the enclosure on the Esplanade. The letter also protested strongly against a band rotunda being placed on one of the enclosures, and enclosed a sketeh of another possible 6ite. It also put forward the following suggestions as to the result of a conference between the Association and the Rotunda Committee:—That the site be directlv in front of the pier, - between it and the King Edward's well, or on the site suggested in the (-ketch. Crs. Hawker and Bellamy were appointed to meet a deputation from the Association and Rotunda Committee, but without power to definitely decide tho site. Tho Firo Brigade Committee was authorised to remove the old bathing shed from the Esplanade south of the r>ier, and to _use it as material for a firo for a trial of the new chemical engine, which was fixed for Thursday, the 30th inst., at 4 u.m.
