(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELE-BAM.)
WESTPORT, April 23.
The Union Steam Ship Company's steamer Taviuni, bound from Nelson, ran ashore on tho south spit at Westport about 8.30 to-night. The night is fine, and the chances of refloating the vessel appear favourable. Later. Tho steamer Ngunguru arrived from Karamea at 10.1-5 to-night. Captain Fletcher reports that the Taviuni is about 300 yards west of the breakwater, lying broadside on to the sea. There is a big swell, and it is probable that the vessel will be driven further ashore on the sandy beach.
The Harbour Board's, tug has gone out. The steamer Komata leaves at midnight, and tlie Mapourika is expected from Greymouth about 5 o'clock.
It will be high tide about 4 o'clock. Art attempt is to be mad© to get a cable aboard the Taviuni to hold her till the tide i3 at tho full.
