THE INDUSTRIAL CRISIS.

TO THE EDITOR OF "THK PRESS." Sir, —I quite agree with your article on the above subject in to-day's issue of "The Press.'* It is quite true the Government is acting like a pack of timid old women, but I think there it one point you overlook, and that is, as far as I can see. the Governmeait has no moans of carrying out the law. It has no army, no navy, and no police force to sendf There are not enough police for ordinary police duties. Laws are all very well on paper, but a Government must have some means of enforcing them. when they are defied. These means, I cay, are utterly wanting, There should either be a regular regiment or two of permanent soldiers, or a strong body of mounted police, ready to bo moved anywhere at any moment. I would suggeet that- in future unions bo made to lodge £100 each before taking a ease up to an Arbitration Court. The fine could then be collected. Every day I see in your paper columns about "Farm Labourers' Dispute," "Concilation Board Proceedings." This ridiculous enquiry must be costing thousands! What a waste of money, considerinc the present xVrbitration Court fiasco I—Yours, etc., C.W.B. April Bth.
