HIS MAJESTY'S.

Tho repetition last night at His Majesty's Theatre of "The Mummy and the Humming Bird" by the Flemming Company drew an overflowing house. Additional interest, so fer as Christchurch playgoers were concerned, was lent to the performance by the fact that Mr Winter Hall playod tho part of Lord Lumley, filled on the opening niaht by Mr Herbert Flemming. The impersonation was one ot merit, taken as a. -whole, Mr Hall playing the character with considerable artistic ability. He was specially good in the strong scene with D'Orelld in tho third aot which. was played with. c-onwnenda'Wo reserve force, all iho points being made with qudot but telling effect. In the first scone of the third oct, Mr Hall hardly realised the true scope of the part, in that he did not bring put so strongly as the scene and situation, demand the scorn which Ix>rd Lumlev feels for D'Orelli. He rather, by the absence of repression, placed Lord Lumley in the position of talking as to his oqiuil. So. also, in the last scene with Lady Lnmley. Mr Hall scarcely brought out sufficiently the dignity of tho husband wlio knows tfut forgives the weakness of his wife. In all other respects, the impersonation was one which deserves warm praise. All the other characters were well fillod, and the piece went splendidly. To-night W. J. Locke's dramatic adaptation of hie novel. "Tho Morals of Marcus Ordeyne" will be played for tho first time in Christchurch.
