OPERATIONS RESUMED.
ATTACK ON THE BLUES' CAMP.
After a temporary cessation of hostilities, tho order was given for the infantry, mounteds, and guns of tho Red fore©, which had returned to camp when the armistice was declared, to bo in the various positions they had vacated on tho Saturday by five o'clock yesterday morning. Accordingly the infantry were once more on the march on Sunday evening, the guns and the mounted men leaving later. The infantry formed a lino of skirmishers from'Hornby to the Yaldhurst road. The City Rifles, under Captain Farthing, were all mounted on commandeered bicycles. Colonel Chaffey, who had a battalion in reserve, occupied the Islington works with mounted men, as that position was a very strong one. A number of tho Canterbury Mounted Rifles, with their galloping Maxim, advanced down tho Yaldhurst road, and just by tho Post Office engaged with a small party of tho Blues, who wero put out of action. A cordon was stretched practically right round the Yaldhurst Domain, and in order to locate the enemy's guns Colonel Chaffey threw his troops further forward than ho would othonviso have done. The E Battery was stationed by tho railway line, and after a few rounds had been fired the umpire made the enemy draw one of his guns to another position. The Reds gradually closed in—tho Maxim and mounted forces on the right, and two squadrons on the left. These wore reinforced by further companies, who were <-o!rrov.?d into iweition in waggons. Captain Johnston endeavoured to Ixrtt richt in. and got very close. At nine o'clock the order "Ce<%se fire"' again went forth, and the manoeuvres were at an ond.
flic decision of the umpires will bo delivered shortly.
