AKAROA REGATTA

Tin , annual regatta, which was aei 1 at Akaroa yesterday was favouretl with fine weather and a record attendance, anJwojhigih-jy fcuoc«sful. The racing was, on the whole, of an interesting character. The Akaroa men were in good form, and scored five win> out of nine erents. In addition to the crowd of visitors from all parts of the Peninsula, a large number of people went through to Akaroa on .Saturday night by the Cygnet and John Anderson.

The Union .Steam Ship Company's marine excursion by the Rotoniahaiia was a great success. The Meatner left Lyttelton at 8.15 a.m. with 11-50 excursionists on board. hundr<tlis of people wore unable to make the trip as a second steamer was. not available. The sea* trip was a most enjoyable, one, and favoured with fine weather, a light broezc. Jind a smooth sea tho steamer made the run each way in three- hours. In spite of tiie large crowd on board ttie vessel, comparatively few people .suffeml from sea sicklies*-.
