A MAORI OUTLAW.
At the monthly meeting of the Kaiapoi School Committee on Monday, all the members were present, ana Mr G. A. Ellen presided. A letter was considered, and on resuming the chairman reported that it was found that the head master's explanation was satTsfaetory. The number on the roll was reported to be 409, average attendance 335; on tho High School roll 33. average 28. The meeting was adjourned for a fortnight to consider the question of tho annual concert for tho prize fund.

Motu rceidente have been et«rtled lately by several mystwioue robberies, and on all oocaeeions bush c«rnpe or isolated dwellings have been tho scene of operations. On Sunday a search party of five set out, and half an hour's walk from the township brought them on some unmistakably fresh tracks, and proceeding cautiously, they soon dropped upon the men, who was completely taken by surprise. One of the party, presenting a rifle, called upon nim to cur render. For c. moment the quarry stood motionlosSj end then with a bound made off into the dense bush, -where he-was pursued for half a. mile, and escape*]. The party discovered his campirg-place, with the proceeds of the robberies. There is no doubt in tho minds of the party that tho iuoh is Metenge, who tt-as the perpetrator of bush robberies in the Wainpii district, end who for (several yeart has been a fugitive from justice*
