There is, however, speculative buying induced by lower prices. River Plate mutton is in lurge supply, and is being strongly pushed at 3d; Canterbury mutton 3Jd, North Island q\d. The lamb market is firm, and weather continues favourable for 63lea. The stock on hand is light and firmly held i_ a few hands. Canterbury brands 5Jd, and other than Canterbury o\d. Tho beef market i% weak : tho supply exceeding tho demand". Hind<juliters 3Jd, forequartenj 2jd. Tlie butter market is Very firm. Thoro is a general and active, demand, and ii* anticipation of the 6mnll supplies coming forward the prico is rising, choicest New Zeahnd being quoted to-day at 114s, Australian salt 114s, Australian saltless life, Danish 110s, and Siberian 104*5. The cheese market i_ very firm, nnd prices are advancing. Tho demand ia active, and retailers have oombiued to advance at once the price to 7Jd per lb. Tho prospects for next season are encouraging; Canadian Gle ciud <53» per cw* for eolovu'e<l and white makes respectively. Tlie hemp market is quiet, and only small husiiiess is being done. Reports from Manila indicate that heu.vy shipment* are expected. Good fair grade ou tbe spot ia quoted at £30 10s, fair grade £'28 10s, fair current Manila £32 10s j October-Decem-ber shipments good fair grade £30, fair grade £28, fair current Manila £30 10* per toil. The cockstoot market i» very firnt and active, owing to advice* of small shipments, and there being only light stocks of seed on hand. BrQjht clean 171b, parcels are quoted at 73» per cwt. The current quotations for Bradford tows are aa follows:—36s low croashreds, Is 3jd; 40 s low crossbrods, Is 44d; 44' a medium crossbreds, Is 5Jd; 60s halfbreds, Is 10id; 56's quarterbrc<l6. 2s ljd; (jOs merinos, 2* 4Jd i>er lb. Tho following meat reached England from the lUver Pl«,to during the njonth of September:—Mutton --For Loiwlon 114,971 carcases, Liverpool 118.695 eirenses, Hull 10,400 carcases, Cardiff 10,935 carcases, Southampton 1104 carcases, Plymouth 1885 carcases: total, 257,890 carcases. Lambs—For London 1972 carcases, Liverpool 1899 carcases, Cardiff 100 carcafaca; total, 3771 carcases.
