OBITUARY.
MR A. C. BEGG. (srSGJAI, TO "-»IUf PBESS.") PVNEDIN, October 12. Mr Alexander Campbell Beag, a prominent citizen ami » well-known public man, passed away at his home in R,o»s street, llcalyn, to-day. Ho had been in ill-health for some time past, 41 ntl his death was not entirely unexpected. He cam© out to New Zealand by the ship Alpine, landing at Port Chalmers iv 18bG. He took over the management of tho pastoral firm, Messrs Douglas, Andoreon and Co., and in 1870 established his agency business. He was for many years a prominent publio man. He was for nine years a member of the Otago Education Board, aud up till recently was an active member of the Harbour Board and Charitable Aid Board. As President of the Otago Acclimatisation Society he did much useful work Ho was an ardent prohibitionist. Mrs James Francis, who arrived in Canterbury before the sixties in tlie ship Rejginn, died at Woodend yesterday at the age of eighty-one years.
