A STUDENTS' HOSTEL.
» j (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGnAM.) WELLINGTON, October 14. Tlie first pile of the Women Students' riocstei in Woolcombe street was driven this afternoon by his Excellency the Governor. Anions others present were the Hon. T. W. lilslop (Mayor of Wellington), the Hons. G. Fowlds (Minister of Education) and Dr. Findlay (At-torney-General), -Mr J. G. W. Aitken, M.H.R., Bishop Wallis, the Rev. J. Gibson-Smith, Professors MacLaurin and Zediitz. Mr Aitken explained that the objects of tlie hostel were to provide a suitable building and accommodation for college students, so that parents living at a distance might know that their children were well housed. An appreciative addiess was delivered by the Governor in driving the first pile, his Excellency saying they might hope that the hostel w : as merely the beginning of something similar to Newnham, Girton, and Somerville Colleges, now known all over the world Lord Phinket also remarked on the advantages to the girl students of re aiding in a place with a religions itmosphere. Addresses were also delivered by the dayor. the Minister of Education, and Dr. Findlay. ti
