♦ (press association telegram.) AUCKLAND. October 14. A private letter received in Auckland states that the Sprcckels Company applied to Congress for « subsidy of L'loo.ooo per annum for the San Francisco mail service. If it is granted the steimers Sierra, Sonoma, and Ventura will receive a thorough overhaul, nnd resume running to New Zealand and Australia in February next.
