VICTORIA AMATEUR TURF CLUB'S SPRING MEETING.

•'■•.'.:>' CAULFIELD, October 13. Although the weather favoured the opening of the Victoria Amwteur Turf o*ub'« Sprin _ Meeting, no doubt the club suffered by reason of ths Australian Jockey Club's action in altering its dale. Many horses that usually travel to Caulfleld after performing. in the ether State, could not be seen on this occasion. The new arrangements also affected the-attendance, for although the stands were filled by ladies, who anticipate with pleasure the flm* opportunity of displaying tbe spring fashions,, still the inter-State visitors did not vHiMo up the usual crowd, and the attendance on the' whole was smaller than on previous Guineas day. lord Northcote and Sir John Madden and parties,. were the centre of n fashionable crowd. The track was in good order, and the racing opened well. Twentyeiriit sported silk for the 1010 Welter race, which was delayed over a quarter of an hour by Juggle, who lest his rider and galloped about, oheased by . troopers. Good horses concerted the CauWie'd Stakes, and as the weather cleared-up, and the sun made its appearance, the crowd increaeed in numbers. Results:— lOLO WELTER HANDICAP, of 150 soys.
