OLD AGE PENSIONS.
LONDON, October 12. The Miners' Federation unanimously passed a resolution in favour of old age pensions, and condemned the procrastination of the Government over the matter.
Tho Government liae promised to bring down in old age pension measure, and has set aside a sum as a nucleus. Commenting on the agitation for pensions the "Spectator" said recently :-r ihe Labour Party have, it is stated, decided to carry on a campaign in the country during tlio recess '"favour of old aigo pensions of five v uP tt w *? k at 61 *ty-fi*«v which shall be non-discriminatory and noncontributory. Mr Bell, M.P., and Mr Ramsay Mcjdonald have informed a representative of the "Standard" that tho agitation will be a ''real one." That this demand for an expenditure of thirty millions a year— for that is what it means when translated mto tho language of financewill be very embarrassing to the Government we do not doubt, but for this ™ e ffime Minister and the Chancellor or the Exchequer have only themselves to thank It was their unhappy Pledge which has done all the harm., lney forgot how dangerous it is to let <a tiger tact« blood if you do not mean to feed him.
