Commenting on the prohibition of the immigration of conr tract labour into the Oommoiiweilth, end speaking of the results of his enquiries ia England, he says; 'It is effecting emigration from En-gland to Australia every day of the year, end blocking schemes of enterprise in all directions."
The "Morning Poet," commenting on the wire-netting duties, eeiye:—''The Commonwealth Parliament seems to be endorsing preference in » striking manner. The increase of preference in this case is from onc-ejxth to one-half the duty, which may make it impossible for the foreigner to compete for any length, of time."
