THE CHURCHES' APPEAL FOR PEACE.

The memorial which has been presented to Tho Hague Conference on behalf of the Christian Churches and societies of tho world affords a remarkable demonstration of the essential unity of all religious denominations on the subject 'of "peace. The object of the 'memorial is to demonstrate to tho members of The Hague Conference the united desire of the Churches of the •world for the amity of the nations, the universal adoption of arbitration in international questions, and an arrest and reduction in the burden of armaments. Three memorials were handed to the President of the Conference— from Great Britain, America, and the Continent respectively—all beautifully engrossed on vellum. The British memorial was signed by twenty-six Bishops of the Church, of England, the Church of Ireland, and the Scottish Episcopal Church, the Bishop of the Moravian Church, the Chief Rabbi, General Booth, the president, ex-president, and all the past presidents of the Free Church Council, and by the heads of practically all the Nonconformist Churches. In all, there were 362 signatures to the memorial from Great Britain. That from America also represented almost every variety of xeligious denomination and every political party, and the Continental signatures included those of Protestante, Jews, and priests of both the Cattiolio and the Greek Churches.
