TRAFALGAR DAY.
TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PRESS." Sir,—l think your correspondent "Q. ,, is in error in saying that the Nary League has asked for a parade of the volunteers at their demonstration in Victoria square on Trafalgar Day. Wo have not done so. We should he only too glad if the volunteers could spare the time to help us, but wf knowquite as well as your correspondent what calls there are on a volunteer's time. I regret, therefore, that your correspondent should hare accused us of -'ostentation and waste of time." an:i of "interference"' with the work of the volunteers. The idea, was not even mooted at our meeting, and 1 hive seen no report in your paper which would justify your correspondent's accusation. We have asked that the cadets should be allowed to attend after school at 4 p.m. on 21st inst. As the object of the Navy League is largely educational, and as some of the schools have formed blanches of tho League, we have not thought it exacting to ask them to spare about an hour of their time to d<. honour to the memory of England's great sea-raptajn. and to help to remind us, as well a.s themselves, of the watchword of "Duty" which ho set us more than a hundred years ago. I do not think the boys will grudge us this. We do not mean to set up to tearh them devotion to duty as if we were superior to them. I know some of us are most bitterly and painfully conscious of our utter unv.orthiness to represent that great watchword every day of our lives. But we hope that ir we meet together on a great day like thus voting and old, one with another, wo may all be helped for the future to do our duty, not only to our country, but to thoso around its, hetter than we have done in the past.—Yours, etc , F. W. HASLAM, President Navy League, Chnst- ' church. Branch.
