The meeting of tlio Lyttelton Borough Council, on Monday njght was attended by tho Mayor (Mr S. H. Webb), Councillors l'\ J. >\. W. Anderson, J. It. C ' Cook and N. C. Schumacher. V letter was read from the Lyttcltoa Lawn Tennis Club, enquiring if there was any probability oi its former application tor the. use of part of the Orphanage site ljcnig granted. The letter was referred to the Estates Com* niittee to report. The Works Committee recommended that the r"?on gang at present engaged on the Orphanage site should be removed to tho rodstouo quarry immediately tho right-of-way was completed, ami that arrangements should then be pushed ahead to build the. redstone wall at tho drillshed. The committee also reported that by ineniis of the Harbour Board's tug six of tho old piles nt Sandy May had been removed The ronmiittee nsked for authority to obtain the whole of the timber required to enable the construction of bnthi nt tho Bay to he prorcrdr.l with. The report wns ndopted. The Council adopted a report of the Estates Conynitteo recommending that tenders shmiJrl ''r called for the work required' to enable port of the Fire Brigade St.-:; ion to bo used as a public library a:id reading room. The' Finance. Committee reported that the receipts since la.st meeting amounted to I'sjS 4r> JOd, made up ns follows;— Hates, £H 8s Cd : rents, £1 10s; gns department. £30S Gs 'Id; water, .£212 4s Cd; sundries, £18 6s Cd. Accounts for payment amounted to £"1227 ](k 7d. The report was adopted. Tho Water Supply Committee recommended that a deviation should be made in tho proposed new pipe line from tho middle reservoir towards Voclas rond by contouring the gully .between Little Brenchly rond and .lackson's road, instead of lifting the three-inch pipe on the former road. The report was adopted. The question of opening n road from fiodley qiiav to the sea frontage near the bontsheds was referred to tho Estates Committee, with power to net. The. Works Committee was authorised to put up not more than six seats on the Orphanage site.
