NORTH CANTERBURY EDUCATION BOARD.

Tho meeting of tho North Cantorbury Education Board, held yesterday, was attended by Messrs M. Dalziell, T. W. Adame, T. W. Rowe, J. Renuie, J. Jamieson, W.H. Peryman and Dr. Hight.

APPOINTMENTS COMMITTEE

Tho following appointments were recommended :—Ash burton, Miss M. G. Fester, assistant mistress; Christchureh East (Gloucester street), Miss E. Chaplin, mistress; Christchureh East, Mr G. R. Kidson, assistant mast- •; Dromore, "\liss S. Craig, mistress; lTairton, Mr S. B. Pitt, master; Midland Railway, Mrs A. E. Thompson, mistress; Newland, Miss E. Whitcside, mistress; Richmond, Miss C. Bain, torn* porary pupil-teacher; Kaikoura Town, Miss M. McLaughlin, mistress; Sydenham, Mr 8. J. lrwin, third assistant master. Tho following resignations had been received and accepted: —Mr A. Scholes, master at Attahua; Miss E. Chaplin, assistant mistress, secondary department, Christchureh West; Mr W. G. Mensics, assistant master, Christchurch West; Miss C Hloan, mistress at Lakeside; Miss E. Minnis, mistress at Paua Bay; Miss E. Cossgrovo, mistress at Spotwood. It -was agreed to # β-end on the name of Miss H. Patrick as an approved candidate for the position of mistress at Mayfield School. Tho suggestion that an assistant mistress bo temporarily engaged for East Christchurch until the end of the year war agreed to. BUILDINGS COMMITTEE. Tho Buildings Committee reported that tho Clerk of Works had submitted an estimate of the cost of installing dual and single desks throughout the Board's scliools, viz., £18,129 for the former, and £32,380 for single desks, in each caso the cost of tho nocessary additions to school buildings being included. It was agreed to instal dual desks in one of the rooms at tho Riccarton School. The Sydenham Committee -wrote, pointing out that tho culverts at the entrance to tlio school grounds wero in a dangerous condition, and asking that the erection of the new outbuildings should bo proceeded with as soon as possible As the proposal made by tho local swimming club in regard to the use of strip of land adjoining bath had already caused delay, it was agreed to inform tho club that unless tho Boards offer was accepted, and tho dressing rooms erected forthwith, tho Board would bo compelled to have the outbuildings erected within a few feet of tho present wall. It wa3 agreed to ask tho Department for ]>ermission to sell tho present caretaker's house and site, the proceeds to bo devoted towards cost of new building. This committee reported that the Director was given authority to make arrangements for ono or perhaps two students to relievo at the Hoys' High Nehools after the close of tho college examinations. It was «greed to recommend the Board to grant ft subsidy on the contributions inndc towards the i)rize fund in connection with tho exhibition of products from school garden*. The- Board of Managers forwarded a Rroiind plan of tho proposed building for a technical school at Rangioro. It wa-j decided to enquire of tho Department as to tho cost, and whether an application for the amount would be entertained. The Director of Manual Training submitted a report- c;i tho steps tckcai to bring iindrr tho notice, of committees the forthcoming exhibition in cookery and woodwork, end also stated that application had been mado for capitation on the woodwork classes for tho first half-year for £236 7s 6d. Tho report was adopted. WEST CHRISTCHUHCH SCHOOL.
