With reference to the cable stating that Mr Carruthers hid informed Mr Botha that ho could get work for 200 unemployed miners, Mr Carruthers states that 3lr Botha asked Mr Deakin if New South Wales could tike unemployed miners, end assist them by a subsidy. Mr Carruthers declined, but said 200 could get work in the Barrier mines during the next two months, but must pay their own costs.
