COAL TRADE. SYDNEY, September 7. Great activity continues in the coal trade. Tho miners on all the coalfields are combining to obtain increased pay. There is somo talk of a general strike unless the demands are conceded. DIPTHERIA IX MELBOURNE. MELBOURNE, September 7. Diphtheria is very prevalent in the city. The chairman of the Board of Health states that infected children are kept waiting for hours in the outpatients' hall of the Children's Hospital. The disease is thus spread to the in-patients' department.
