MANAWATU TOURNAMENT.

(special to "the fkess.") KAITOKE, Scptemb&r 7. The "weather was beautiful for the conclusion of Hie Manawatu Golf Club s annual tournomont. Considerable intereet was taken in the finals for the championship, which were played off yesterday. In the Men's Championship W. Reid (Wellington) defeated D. Pryde (Feilding), 4 up and 2 t«o play, after a good game. The hdies f championship fell to Miss Beateon (Hastings), who beat Mies Campbell (Christchurch), 3 up and 2 to play. Tho Ladies' Consolation prize was won by Mrs Mooro (Mauawetu), with Mre Mellsop (Manawatu), second. There were forty-four entries in the Men's Four Ball Competition. It was won by A. and L. Seifort (Manawatu), score 83, handicap 10, net. 75. The run-nere-np were W. Colbeck and H. Bamford (Auckland) with 85, handicap 3, net 79. A. Barraud and H. G. Mooro (Manawatu) were third with 82, handicap 2, net 80. The Todies' Putting Competition drew forty entries. It was won by Miss Neave with >a score of eighteen. * Mrs Wilson, Miss Wilson, and Miss Campbell tied for second placo with 19. Four players—W. A. Hiimnhries, H. Gillies, G. "W. Harden nnd H. Cooper—tied for firet place in tho Men's Putting Competition with a score of 18. Tho final of the Ladies' Eighteen Holes' Stroke Competition was played off this afternoon, and resulted in Miss Cowper (Wanganui) beatins; Mies Stafford (Wellington). At the conclusion of tho tournament the prizes were presented by Mrs Wilson, the wife of the Manawatn Club's president. Mr Colbeck, speaking on behalf of the visitors, returned hearty thanks for the manner in which they had been treated. Ho said he was euro the tournament would be much better attended if the outside clubs only knew the hearty manner in which visitors were received and looked after by the Manawatu players.
