THE FARMERS' UNION.
TO TUB EDITOR OF "THE I'BKSS." Sir,—What is the Farmers' Union and how is the business of the Farmers' Union conducted P We have an enrol ment of certain members of tinFarmers' Union, and in the varionbranches there aro committees formed and a delegate appointed. The com mittees do the work of the various dU tricts, and the delegates are the mouthpieces of these committees at tho Pro vincial Council. Those various committees are very often n bare quorum, who pa : s remits'to the delegates to pas* on to tho Provincial Executive. These remit* aro discu.*sed by the Kxecutiv \ and aro forwarded as representing th • opinion of the farming community. This is the way in which the FarmorV Union has been carried on, but it is timo that the farmers were loyal io themselves as a whole, and not 'et then-solve-) be hoodwinked hy a few wir- nfmllere. Tliere is nothing in tho ro:u ations of tho Farm Union Araociition (where the whole of the fnrme:s are represented) with regard to such arr important matter of discussion as thiland question or tho labour Idiws of th** country, a matter which affects the whole of tho colony, and not only a local branch of the farming community. A question that affects tho whole of the farming com minify of tho colony t honld not bo decided by a local branch committee, and then handed on to a cteln"ate to bring before tho Provinci d Executive, as an opinion of that branch, but it should lie endorsed by ■.-. general meeting c;f the farmers of that branch.—Yours., etc., JOHN WELD, Waikari.
