KAIKOURA
After a fortnight's beautiful spring weather heavy rain sot in here yesterday morning, but there was no wind. There w«s a heavy nor'-wester on Sunday morning, causing the s.s. Cygnet to land passengers at tho South Hay. Fishermen have been securing exceptionally large hauls of fish lately. Thero was over 7 tons on tho wharf on ■Sunday, besides which tho freezing works were full. ■Several contractors havo already been here to view the position for the now wharf. Kaikoura will be a busy place during the time of its construction. The A. and P. Association aro applying to the Government for tho service-* of a purebred -Shorthorn bull aud Clydosdale stallion. A new flax mill is starting operations at Hundalee, Mr C. 11. "Whitrcoir.be, lato of Southbrook, being the owner. Stripping will be commenced within tho next three weeks.
