SUMNER BOROUGH COUNCIL

Tha Sumner Borough Council met last evening. Present—Tho Mayor, Mr G. Mitchell (in tho chair), and Crs. Wood, McGill, Denham, Bruer, Stackhouse, Maffcy and Andrews.

Mr P. Hill wrote, pointing ont that thero waa 3 serious depression in Colonso street, which the Council should attend to. Tho letter was referred to the Works Committee.

Tho Works Committee in their report stated that letters were received From Mr T. E. Taylor and Messrs Mearcs and Williams, with regard to dealing with the storm water from the Clifton Extension roads, and recommended that tho borough engineor he instructed to visit the spot aud point out to the Clifton Extension Syndicate where and how tho pipes aro to bo laid to connect the Clifton Extension drainage with the present Clifton drainage. This action to bo without prejudice to the Oounoii'. pesirion /ogarding the taking over of tho Clifton Extension roads. In regard to tho cleaning of tho Campbell street drain, it was recommended that iho work bo carried out at once. After p.eiving an opinion from the borough .lieitors in referenco to the Council's ■nsition in regard to the .Monde's Bay -tate roads, the committee roeom.nded that a request bo ec.nt to* the '..nek's Bay Estate rtsidents to have csh plans prepared of all the roads .i tho estate, cast of the rifle range, ml that they lie asked if their preious offer of £36, the estimated cost putting tho flat roads in order, still >kls good. It was resolved to defer instruction of tho tower in Drvdrn icet until tho Council ascertain tho isition with regard to diverting loan ;>:iey. In regard to Mr iS. I\ Anro.v's letter, tho matter was left in ■ o hands of the Mayor to obtain legal pinion. Tho work of straightening : o creek running down the "Sumner illey was deferred. It was rccomended that tho agreement to crush !()0 cubic yards of stone bo confirmed. Ii« report was adopted. The Council went into committee to ■•■onsider the Finance Committee's report, and subsequently adjourned.
