A steamer, which could not be identified, passed Lyttelton Heads, eighteen miles off, going south, at 7 o'clock yesterday morning. After taking tho Aparima down to Port Chalmers last week. Captain Worrall resumed command of the Moeraki, which left Port Chaiiuors for Melbourne on Sunday, utter her annual overhaul. Captain Worrail has tho following officers with him:—Chief, Mr It. Tho vessel has 750 tons of cargo to land here, after which sho goes to Port ChalmeTS to complete discharging. Thence she proceeds fo Ncwcnstlo, to load coal for Acapulco, Mexico. The steamer had an eventful passage out. which has already been described. Tho vessel put into St. Helena to repair damaged pumps, snd while at Capetown a firo broke out in her bunkers. It is stated thet the vessel's cargo is turning out in good order, and it is not anticipated that any of the New Zealand cartro has been damaged. Mr W. Gordon, late second mate of the burque Rona. who has been studying at "Devonia" Navigation School. Lyttelton, passed his examination yesterday for a certificate of comnetency as first mate of a forei-rn-going ship. The schoorer Falcon took in a' quantity of coal yesterdny. and was towed out to an nnchoracc in the stream. She will sail with the first fair wind for Havelock. where she will load a carcro of timber for Lytto'ton. She will discharge, about 2900 tons at Lyttelton, and then pa on to Oamaru and Dunodin to put out ths balance.
