Haskins, of Christchurch, who is studying d-Biitistry at the University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A., won the onemile championship at tho intercollegiate sports last month. The .win carries with it the titlo of '•intercollegiate Champion of the United States lor the mile run." Mr Haskins, who was educated at the Boys' High School, Christchurch, has been elected a liio member of .tho Mew York Athletic Club.

Mr W. S. Richardson) nominated two members of the institute.—Messrs N. F J. Haszard, of Waihi, and John Mount, of G-isborne—for appointment on the staff of tho Malay Trigonometrical Survey Department. Official confirmation of these nominations has been received, and the officers named will leave immediately to toko up their now duties. There aro already ono member and two associates of tho New Zealand Institute of Surveyors in the service of the samo Government.
