In th© list of tho successful Now Zealand students in medicine at the University of Edinburgh, it will be noticed that Mr W. Bartholin Sommers (Christchurch) is now through his second professional examination in medicine, and that he secured honours in anatomy, physiology, and materia medica. New Zealand singers were strongly in evidence at the concert of her pupil given by Madame Marchesi in Paris, the* afternoon before last. Among these were Mrs C. M. Brooke, of Christchurch, who sang "Pur Dioesti" (Lotti), "Vittoria" (Carissimi), and "Die Lotos Blumo" (Schumann); Miss Sybil Hawkins ("Mdlle. Sybil Tancredi"), who gave an aria from Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor," and joined her sister, Miss Dorothy Hawkins ("Mdlle. Dorothy Tancredi"), in the duet from Delibes' "Lakme," the latter young lady also contributing "Le Nil"—with violin obligato—(Leroux), and "Povera Rosa" (S. Marchesi). I learn that all these New Zealanders acquitted themselves to admiration.
