*=: > s A SUCCESSFUL CANVASS, (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAM.) WELLINGTON, May 19. The directorate-of the V.M.C.A. today publishes it first list of subscriptions received towards the effort to raise ten thousand pounds to erect a building on the■site in Willi* street, given by. Mrs v> uliams. The canvasa organised by Mr Budge, of Montreal, has been very successful. So large a proportion of the sum required is being already promised that when the canvass ceases on Jane 7th its entire* snooess seems assured. Th« principal contributions are:—Archdearon \Villiams, Hawkesbury, £1000; 31rs Rhodes, £500; A. 8. Patereon and Co., £300; John Kirkoaldie. Aitken, Wilson and Co., George and Keraley, Crichton and McKay, £250 each; Wm. Allan Wm. Campbell, E. B. Hart R..Hannah end Co,, J. Hot*. S. Luke and Co., C. H. Jones, A. Hoby. "A Friend," W. R. E. Brovrn, and Blundell Brosu, £100 each. A committee of young men who have undertaken to raise a quarter of the % fund have already collected £1718.
