SKATING CARNIVAL.
The first fancy dress skating canotn_M of the season was held at the OolcswanJl; Skating Rink last night, when the reserved for spec ..tors was ©Towdea.iijjl all parts. Nearly a hundred dumftsP' took part in the carnival, and the was an animated and picturesque OWj-|_-' The programme opened, with a gTMfe march, after wliich the skaters through a number of erohitiom 3?*®||i followed an exhibition of skating, W»j|f forward and backward, by little U}m? Ellis, claimed to be the smallest in New Zealand, a fan. and baßoon, I *fJ_»t* 1 a tie race, and several prizes awarded by the managemeßlv;.There were some vory pretty *na *J?t-'J very ingenious costumes exhibited,, *jf*% more prominent ones being Charfc»>H. % >cMr W. A. Thompson), Djm Djin (Mlf-f-R. Barnett), Canadian Skater (Proftawf') Rae Johnstone), Mrs Sin bad (M__k&"«:j Kent.), Lamp Shade (Miss M. Fox), W>4 a monkey (Mr J. Guuuksb). The Wr;£ lowing are tho results of the Fan and balloon race. Master G«i,| Piercy: half mile costume race, Mr **&% Davis 1, Mr A. H. Ragg 2; lady jagg gentleman's tie race, Mr H.
