AMURI COUNTY COUNCIL.

♦ The monthly meeting of tho Amuri County Council was attended by Messrs K. A. Chaifey, K. A. Forrester, W. l' , itzpatiick, A. Mjicfarlane, L>. I>. Macrarkine (presiding in the abeenoo of tho chairman), W. iUacfarlane, J. McArthnr and W. Thomson. Mr A. W. Rutherford, M.H.11., wrote, stating that the question ot erecting a stock bridge <over the Waipara, had oeen chferred pending tho consideration by the Government of ra petition from tho Omihi settlers asking for a traffic bridge instead of tho proposed stock bridgo. Mr A. McDonald applied for repair*- to tho road in front ot his residence at Waiau, and it was decided to attend to the matter. Tho Chief Surveyor of Roads wrote, stating that authority for the expenditure ot £lih) on the Cannibal Gorge stock track (Lewis Saddle) had been cancelled, and the work would be carried out by the District Road Engineer. (At this stage Mr D. Rutherford took the chair.) Tlie North Canterbury Hosp.tal Board forwarded a demand ior £205 9s 6d, being the levy for the current year. Tho clerk reported that this was £11 18s <M in exoeris of last. years demand. The Charitable Am Board forwarded « demand for £lltt 12s 3d for tho year 190(>-7, or £21 os less than last year's contribution. It was decided to pay these amounts by monthly instalments. A petition web received from nine settlers on the Annan Estate, asking the Council to metal about 30 chains of the Downfi Road, Waiau. Tho overseer was directed to inspect the read and report to the next meeting. Mr Chaffey urged the necessity for the repairs at the wash-out in th-o Main road, near Upper Highfield, being effected at once, ana the overseer was instructed to call for tenders for the work. Mr AleArthur having called attention to the had state of the road over Joll'e's Pass and the road to St. James*, it was decided to authorise Mr McArthur to do tlie work required to keep these reads open, at a coot not to exceed £20 per annum. The bank balances on March 31st were:—County Fund Account (debit) £243 14s 7d. Water-race Maintenance Account (credit) £88 12s, and Water-race Interest Account (credit) £6 17s lOd.
