The Hon. Colonel Pitt, who has been on a few days risat to Hanmer Springs, roturus to-day. The Minister's visit was purely a private one, but ho took the opportunity while at the Springs of inspecting the two streams from which it is proposed to 'bring tho Hanmer waiter supply, tho Rogerson, favoured by tho residents, and Dog Creek, recommended by the Government surveyors. His Lordship, Bishop Grimes loaves for Rome on the 25th inst., and expects to return about tho eitd' of the year. A valedictory conversazione will take place on Tuesday evening next, at the Alexandra Hall.
Sir Robert Stout, Chief Justioe and Chancellor of the New Zealand University, has left to attend tho Jubilee of the Melbourne University.
Lieutenant Cameron, R.N.R., who is making his first voyage in tho capacity of captain on the Rimutaka, received a handsome presentation from the officers of tho ship, as a wedding gife. His marriage takes place at Dunedin on Friday next, to Miss Winnie Whitson, daughter of Mr T. W. Whitson, of the Union Steam Ship Company. Mr Alex Gray, the well-known Wellington solicitor, is in town. A farewell social was given to tho Rev. T. A. and Mrs Joughin by tho Woodend Methodist Cliurch on Monday, April 2nd, on the occasion of their removal to Waimate. On behalf of tho Woodend, Waikuku and Sefton churches, Mr Burnot presented Mr and Mrs Joughin with a silver inkstand and pen, serviette rings, and cream jug. The Ladies' Guild presented Mra Joughin with a handsome rug, and Miss Joughin was the recipient of a silver-backed hair brush from the choir.
