Th© Taviuni also brought news of the loss of the schooner Ta'hitienne, which was commanded by Captain Georges Dorter. Only two native* were saved. Captain Dexter remained for two dayß on a raft before sinking in. the waves. Mir Sheves, the mate, remained for one day on anotiher raft. The two men who wane saved were five days on a raft before being able to land on an island. They aay tha* numbers of big sharks foHorwed tihe rafts, and that the captain and the second mate wore eaten by thean ea won as they fell into the water. It i 6 reported that a mattress and pillow belonging to Mr. Ed. Bonnefin, who was on board the schooner Eimeo, has been found. It is feared that tbe schooner h#s been wrecked near Rangiroa LsLamd, but northing definite could be ascertained. Hie schooner St. Michael started some time ago for Marquesas Island to search for the Eimeo, but she had not returned when the mail left.
