BIG TROUT EXHIBITS.

Sir, —In a late ieeuo of 'The Press," under heading "International Exhibition," you 6ay that ;at the public meeting held at Ashburfon, at -which Messrs Allan and Righton were present:—'Mr A. H Shury offered, on behalf of the Ashburl ton Acclimatisation Society, to allow the large trout now in tho Tourist Office, Christchurch, to form part of (he Ash- , burton County's exhibit." I Thie is hardly correct. The trout in 'question was given absolutely to the Tourist Department to advertise Ashburton as a hashing resort, and for thie purpose 1 also presented to the Tourist Department a photo of the Ashburton fishing camp. I could hardly say I would allow it to form part of tho Ashburton County's exhibit before I had tho permission of the Tourist Depart- ; niont to do so. I What I did «iy was that the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society had boen preparing an exhibit of trout for the Exhibition, and had now roadv to exhibit nine fish, and we hoped the Tourust Department would allow the fish i now on view in their office, Coriatj church, to form part of the exhibit. I Wo have now raidy, caught in the Ashburton, a brown, 'trout, 191b 2oz, caught by A. C. Jonassen; ditto, 141b Soz, caught by T. Carney; ditto. 16lb, caught by Abe Jameson. Caught in itakaaa, brown trout 161b, caught by \V. Hodgkins; ditto (2), 14U»>, oanglit ,by H. G. Btri-jman; in the Ashburton, ; one oi 141b, aiusht by Jonassen. ' Greenback, supposed Snlmo Quianat, caught in Itangitata, 121b, 32 inches long, caught by Tom W'i'son; 141b, 34 inches long, caught by WT. llcKeagiie, which I think will form a fairly interv>t:np; exhibit for anglers and ; tourists. —Yours, etc..
