CITY RIFLES.
The twenty-fourth annual meeting of the Christchiirch City Riflos was held on Monday night. Captain A. M. Loaf by presided, and Lieutenants Steere and Salter and fifty members were present. The balance-sheet, showing a credit of assets over liabilities of £310 2s 9d, was read. In moving its adoption, Captain Loasby congratulated the company on the improved financial position and the general progress made during the year. Fifty-six members had earned capitation, and the company was now in a strong position. There were a few vacancies, but it was hoped these will soon bo filled by good men. He vran ■well satisfied with the non-commissioned officers. An order had been placed with tho Kaiapoi Woollen Company, and it was honed the company would have a new full-dress uniform within the next few months. Lieutenant Steere endorsed the remarks of Captain Loasby, and the balance-sheet was adopted. The report of the Shooting Committee showed that the year had been fairly successful. It urged members to pay more attention to practice both on the range and with tho Morris-tubes. Every facility would he given to men wishing to learn to shoot, and ammunition -would be supplied free for practice. The result of the examination for vacancies in tho non-commissioned officers' ranks had resulted as follows:—Corporal Thorne to bo sergeant, Privates Hunter and Gapas to bo corporals, Privates Hart and Ariow to be lance-corporals. The* following committees -were elected for the year:—General, the officers, non-coms., end Privates Earls and Hnlbert; Shooting. Sergeants Dodd, Newman, Cook and Thorno. «nd Corporal O'Callaghan ; Social, Sergeants Newman, Cook and Thorne, Corporals O'Callaghan and Gapos; custodians of stores, Sergeants Newman and Cook: delegates to Christchurch Rifle Association. Lieutenant SaUer and Sergeant Thorne; auditors. Sergeants Newman and Cook; secretary, Colour-Sergeant Brooker. It was deckled to put teams in training for the Exhibition Military Tournament.
