RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL
The ordinary meeting of the RanHiora Borough Council was held on Friday evening. All the members were prosont, the Mayor (Mr E. W. Rolph) presiding. Tho Treasury, Wellington iorwarded a cheque for £'2 ss, being the amount of fines collected in the S.M Court for the past quarter. The Works Committee recommended that tenders l>o called for cleaning out the drains in tho south portion of tho borough, and for shingle for repairing Burt, John, and Charles streets. The financial statement showed a credit balance at the bank of £340 10s lid. Accounts amounting to £58 3s Id were passed for payment. The Town Clerk report, od tliat the land purchased as a site for the gasworks had been paid for out of the ordinary fund. Permission was granted to Mr Culvert to use for «i period of seven monthfi the wholo width of the footpath in High street, opposite the new building being erected for tho North Canterbury Stores Comjxiny. The Clerk reported that rates amounting to £-17 9s 4d were outstanding, and he was instructed to sue for thorn if they wero not paid shortly. The Mayor stated that a meeting would Ik> held*to discuss the question of*asking the Premier to address a public meeting in Random. The Mayor brought Ix'fore the Council the necessity for the erection of new Council Chambers nnd offices. He suggested that a brick building be erected at a cost, of £7oO; that the Fire. Brigade accommodation bo improved; that a rotunda be placed in Victoria square, and that the construction of the swimming bath be gone on with. The total cost, of these works, ho paid, would be about £1200. Several Councillors approved of the Mayor's suggestions, end a committee was appointed to discir-s tho matter and report to a future meeting.
