Miss Godfrey, who lias been appointed to the position of matron of tine Dannevirke Hospital, is a sister of Dr. Godfrey, of Waipnkiirau. She commenced her professional career in the London Hospital, where she remained three years. On coming to New Zealand she had a private hospital in Wellington for five years. She was matron of tho Waipawa district hospital for seven years, and had one year s military nursing in South Africa during the recent war.

The Hon. T. W. Hislop has decided that he Trill seek re-election for tho position of Mayor of "Wellington. Mr J. E. P. Mr McFarlano, assistant clerk in the Magistrate's Court at Timaru, has received wordi of his promotion to New Plymouth, but ho will be first stationed temporarily at Christchurch. Mr Hart, of Dannevirko will take Mr McFarlane's placo in Timaru. ' A farewell social to Mr J. A. Johnson, M.A., was held at the Main school, Timaru on Saturday afternoon, when about forty persons were present. A presentation was mado to Mr Johnson on behalf of the South Canterbury Educational Institute.

Mr H. Amos, lately on tho staff of tho Boys' High School, Timaru, left on Saturday for Feilding, having obtained an appointment in the Feilding school. Tho employees of Messrs Andrews and Beaven entertained Mr Androws on Friday, prior to his departure on a visit to tho Old Country. Mr Andrews was presented with a deck chair, a eilver-mounted pocket flask, and a pair of field glasses, and Mrs Andrews with a deck chair and a Kaiapoi rug. Mr Andrews thanked the employeos for their kindness. Mr and Mrs Andrews expect to return in time for the Exhibition.
