The oil launch, Tuariki_, laden with timber, capsized in a high wind in Pelorus Sound on Tuesday and sank. Tho engineer, Mr Wilkinson, who was trapped in the engine-room, was released by Captain Johnston at the last moment, liis rescue being effected by bursting the port hole and planking. Two passengers— .Misses Venimore and Price*—and the crew kept 'afloat >on a plank for half an hour, until rescued by a boat from the Paradise Bay Dairy Factory, off which the accident happened. The boat sank in fifteen fathoms of wat<ir, and will probably bo refloated. She is valued at £500, and is the property of Mr J. Wilkinson, of Kaiapci. She is uninsured.
