THE MAYORALTY.
It is understood that Sir John Hall will be in town to-morrow to receive a deputation asking him to allow himself to be nominated for the office of Mayor for this year. A largely attended meeting of the committee lormed to auist the return' of the Hon. Chas. Louisson as Mayor of Christchurch for the ensuing year •was held yesterday afternoon ah- the Chamber of Commerce. Mr H. Quane presided, and said that as it had. been stated on fairly good authority that there was likely to be opposition, it had .been, deemed necessary to call a meeting of the committee, so as to he ready - for emergencies. -. As they had invited the Hon. Mr Louisson to come forward, it was their duty to take, every means to secure his success in case or a contest. It was resolved that a secretarybe appointed, and that detailed arrange-' mentis be mavde for taking the field, immediately on the. _n_ounoer_ent of • another candid-te coming forward., Mi*. H. A. Adley waa appointed to act as secretary to the committee, and .the chairman waa requested to convene a meeting of the committee when he.considered it necessary.
