Low, who had been missing for some days in attempting to cross the Southern Alps from the western ranges, had been found alive. The deky in reacliing the Hermitage -was owing to bis having sprained an ankle.

It seems that after the accident Mr Low crawled on ( his hands and knees for tliree days and four nights, dragging his swag after him by means of a light line ne carried for emergencies. In this manner he eventually reached De La Becho Bivouac, where he was found by Guides Clarke and Graham on Friday morning, teu days after tho accident. Tbo guides got Low through to Uu> Hermitage, and then returned to the Westland side' of the range to intercept the search parties in that quarter, anu give them the good news. The parties met, in the mountains where tho happy tidings were commuiu'cutod, anu the searchers then returned homewards.
