WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB'S AUTUMN MEETING.

(press association telegram.) WAXGAJCUJ March 2. The meeting -was concluded to-day in beautiful weather. There* was again a. large and representative attendance, and speculation was exceedingly brisk, a record for the club being established. The- amount machined to-day was .£12.243, making a total for the meeting of £26,060, as compared with .£20,564 last year, an increase of £5196. The racing generally was of an interesting character, but. was marred by two or tbreo bad starts. The start for the Jackson. Stakes f-poilt the race. The field was despatched in straggling order, Stronghold and Dβ' VTittc- being first aiwsy threo lengths ahead of Achilles and Loftus, who were a similar distance in front of Porcelain. Achilles and Loftus joined the leaders at the three furlongs post, while . Porcelain was making up his ground steadily. Entering the straight Achilles came away, and Porcelain, who -was on the outside, put in a brilliant run, but could not. reach Achillea who won by fchree-qusTters ol a length in the fast time of lmin 11 2-sth sec. The Okoia Hack Hurdles resulted in a fiasco, owing to a regrettable misunderstanding: in connection with the start. As tho field was bom« denpatched the starter, Mr Cbavannee, allege* he called "Steady Swop." The two favourites, Dalky and 'Florio, stopped, their riders »tating that tho slarter had called "Stop." Swop led all the way, and won from Showman and Flanagan. A demonstration tcok place, on tho stewards deciding it was a race, and hooting was indulged in by the orowd. Tho owner of Hose*} was called before the stewards for alleged inconsistent form after the first race, but no action was taken. The TVflngttnui Stakes resulted in a fin© yace. Multifid mado the running to the straight, where Letherin and Ghoorka took, charge. Melodoon then came with a slashing run, and won by a longfb. Results: —
