THE PERILS OF ALPINE CLIMBING.

A t6urist missing

(fbess association telegram.) HOKITIRA, March 2.' Fears are entertained for tho safety of Mr R. S. Low, a visitor from Scotland, who has made several ascents of the Southern Alps, including tho conquest of Mount Ccok a year ago. On' February 21st ho left tho Westland side of tho range to cress to the Hermitage by. way-of Graham's saddle, at the bead of the Franz Josef glacier, with the intention of meeting Dr. Bell, who was crossing over from Canterbury. Nothing has since been heard of Mr Low, and' it is feared he has met with disaster. Dr. Bell readied the Westland side, and he returned, to-day to search with the Rev. Mr Newtown and others. It is. believed that a search party is out from the Canterbury side. The chances of rescue are not considered hopeful.
