Tiro arrest of a city solicitor nnd another man on a charge of attempting to defraud a solicitor named Wilson of £40 has led to tho disclosure of a sensational story. The arrests were mado on tho strength of a document placed in tho hands of tho police by Wilson. According to Wilson, early in tho year a retired sea-captain mado tho acquaintance of n woman with whom he becamo closely associated. A few months ngo tho captain died suddenly, and shortly after his death the womun handed tho captain's will, under which ho left her all his property, amounting, it is alleged, to about £20,000, to one ol the arrested persons. It was witnessed by a woman friend of tho beneficiary, in whose handwriting it was mado out. At this stage a nephew of tho dead captain, who resides in New Zealand, came on tho soeno and disputed tho will, and produced one mado by hie undo yoars ngo, wherein ho was mado solo heir. Wilson alleges that tho caso was set down for hearing in Wellington nest Thursday, and that tho woman and tho two arrestod men and tho woman who witnesstd tho will thould have sailed for New Zealand last Tuesday, tho money for tho passages, amounting to £40, in connection with which tho arrests were mado, being advanced by Wilson, who was shown the will as a guarantee of repayment. Tho woman, however, took ill, and during her illnose sent for Wilson, and confessed that tho will was a forgery, further alleging that tho arrestod men were aware of tho facts. Wilson obtained a confession in writing and handed it to tho police. Tho arrested men have been admitted to bail.
